Kitty Lupin update

It's been 4 weeks since Lupin's leg got broken, we take him back in today for an x-ray & see if he can go without his cast or if it needs to be re-wrapped for another 2 weeks.
Let's hope for Trevor's piggy bank's sake that he won't need any more visits. Plus, this poor cat keeps forgetting about the cast & runs & jumps around like a total spaz.

Poor broken Kitty Lupin.... $$$

So 2 weeks ago Trevor decided to try to send Lupin down the stairs, Superman style.
Apparently we don't have a cat smart enough to land on his feet.
More pics to follow. And yes, Trevor is earning 10% of the total vet bill by doing extra chores for the next few months.

Erin's 30th Birthday present.... for the whole family

As many of you know, I turned 30 on the 5th.
The kids surprised "me" with a kitten. Later on we went out for Chinese food & came back home for some chocolate ice box cake!
(thanks for the cake Rick, love you)

Olivia wanted to name him "Tonks" (like the last cat) but it was a boy cat this time. Trevor wanted to name him "fence" or "window Dean Davis". Rick suggested "tractor" or "combine" (no way).... we settled on the name Lupin. (Yes, also from the great world of Harry Potter.... he looks like Tonks did but is a boy & has freaky amber werewolf-eyes.)

Goodbye Kitty Tonks

Crap.
Apparently we were wrong about the last post.... unfortunately that also means that the kids were right & that Tonks is dead.
Rick found her in the field behind our house tonight. They've been mowing & bailing the hay (hence all the mice) & she git hit by a combine.

Sorry little Kitty Tonks, we'll miss you.
Olivia can't stop crying.

Here's a few of her finer moments:

Cat & mouse(s)

Every parent of a child with a pet worries about the day that they are going to come home & find that their pet is dead. Devastation & years of counseling will invariably follow, right?

Not in the Davis home.

I came home from work today & the older kids were sitting out on the back porch coloring while Rick & Aiden were napping upstairs.
They casually glanced up at me & here's how the conversation went from there:

Them: We put the rats in their home, Mom. (& point to the potted plants. I take a gander & sure enough, there's a little dead mouse)
Me: Did you pick it up?!?
Them: Yeah, there were 3 of them (still coloring).
Me: You touched it? Go inside & wash your hands!
(a few minutes later, back outside)
Me: What? Wait, there's only 1....
Them: Nope, there's 3.... Yeah, & Tonks got hit by a tractor, she's out on the dirt.
Olivia: (still coloring) Yeah, she's dead
Me: WHAT?!? Does your dad know this?
Them: Yeah
(I run upstairs laughing & not too sure of the truth, wake Rick up & ask him if our cat got hit by a tractor & is dead... he tells me no)
Me: You guys, the cat is not dead & there is only 1 mouse here.
Them: No, there's 3
Me: Ok, maybe there's 2 (one in each flower pot)
(I proceed to teach my kids math with dead mice... 1+1 = 2)
Olivia: Nope, there's one more here, it's face got eaten off.... (she picks up the top mouse to reveal the half-eaten one below)
Me: Olivia! Go wash your hands!
Olivia: I just did!
Me: ... yeah, & then you picked up a dead mouse again!

Me: Tonks! Kitty kitty kitty kitty! (no answer)
Trevor: (looks up from coloring) She's dead..... we need to get another cat.

(Edited 8/18: Turns out that they were right, they had been upstairs looking out the window & saw it. Poor kitty, I'm so sorry kids.)

My little surgeons....

Oh, to be a parent, to be so proud!
So, if you have been following our family's blog over the past year you will remember a few posts about our little cat, Tonks. There was this incident, and then this one... oh, and then this time.
Yes, it's time, I have another story.
Poor Tonks, but you know... she really does set herself up for these stories, she can run faster than the kids if she wants to.
So, yesterday morning we were getting ready to head to the store & both of the kids were in the kitchen. Rick walks in there to tell them to get their shoes on & here is the scene he finds:

Trevor & Olivia have Tonks pinned on her back on the kitchen table & we can hear them talking to her.
"About what?" you might be asking yourself.....

"Hold still, I'm a doctor... you're going to be ok, you need to hold still"

Well, apparently they also had a butter knife & were "doing surgery" on her stomach. Something they saw nothing wrong with & were totally fine telling their Dad about.

Needless to say, they got a major time-out for that one as Rick & I laughed in the other room.

Poor Tonks....

All I have to say is poor Tonks.... but then again, she is the one dumb enough to have chosen Trevor as her favorite.

Look at what the cat dragged in...

So the other day I come out of the bathroom & Rick is standing there pinning something under his foot.... apparently Tonks came carrying this bird in with just the head in her mouth & when she let it go it started flying around our living room.
At first Trevor sat there with this awestruck look on his face, after Rick caught it he decided it was "cute" & wanted to keep it.
No way buddy.

Cute cat picture

This post has nothing to do with anything except I just think this picture of the kids & Tonks is too stinkin' cute...

Trevor & poor Kitty Tonks

True story, hilarious. For some reason, even though Trevor keeps doing this kind of stuff to her she still loves him best. She sits outside his door at night until he falls asleep & I let her in to sleep on his bed.
This is the IM conversation I had with Rick this morning while I was in class:

Rick says:
so i was walking down the hall and I heard the cat meow. so i look in the bedrooms to see if she got locked somewhere she wasn't suppose to be. I couldn't find her but could still hear her meow. I looked in the closet and found the kid's stuffed frog by the towels and could still hear her meow. I asked trevor where she was and he pointed to the top drawer under the cupboards. I opened the drawer

Erin says:
oh no
Rick says:
and there she was. I don't know how long she was there. I'm guessing a couple hours.

Erin says:
poor kitty
Rick says:
this morning he got introuble for cramming her under the stool in the bathroom and standing on it while he went bathroom. he was torturing her
Erin says:
i've seen him try to do that before. she just lays there
I told my friend Kristen about this & she says that if the cat just lays there then it's totally ok to laugh.

Happy Birthday Trevor!!!

Today was Trevor's 4th Birthday, what a blast!
He had a Spiderman cake (sorta) at his request & he said that it had to have both Spidey & Venom... so here's my attempt. He loved it so that's all that matters.
Today was also his first day as a Sunbeam in Primary at church, no more nursery for him. *sniff* He was so grown up & loved helping his teachers & singing the songs.
How time flies, all day I've been thinking back to the day he was born & what we were doing at various times of the day -vs- now... much less painful today but still so worth it.

Kaitlyn, Trevor, & Ryan ooohing over the new Playdough. A must-have for any 4 year old.

Yippie! The long-awaited race car track. Holy smokes, every Santa we came in contact with this year heard how much Rick, I mean Trevor, wanted one of these.

Ta dah! It has 2 cars that run the loops & are remote controlled via the little wires that are attached to the underside of the cars.
It's hard to say if it was a bigger hit with the kids or the dads.

Olivia trying to sneak Tonks into bed with her after the festivities.

Poor kitty

So Trevor got up this morning before we did.
I walked out to the living room & here's what I saw:
Mom: Trevor, what is that in your pants?
Trevor: Cat!
Mom: What?!?
Trevor: It's the kitty!
(now I can hear Rick laughing in the bedroom)
... so unzip his PJ's & voila! There's poor Tonks, he'd shoved her down his pant leg, zipped her up in there, & had been walking around the living room.

How to give a cat a bath:

Ha ha ha... just kidding! (sorta)

Our new little addition

Everybody, say hello to Tonks...the newest member of the Davis clan.

The kids have been dying for a kitty for pretty much forever so we finally decided to go for it. I guess we just can't be without a cat for too long.

We were going to wait & do the kitty-with-a-bow-around-it-Chritmas-morning-thing but decided if we waited that long we may not get the one we wanted.

So, happy Merry early Christmas kiddos.
