Trevor's "Graduation"

*sigh* ....eye roll.

Trevor "graduated" from kindergarten last Thursday.
What did I learn?

That I am a horrible mom because I think the whole idea of graduating from kindergarten is ridiculous. Yes, like a proper mother the night before he started school I was bawling my eyes out on the floor of my closet, clutching my phone as I sought comfort from my mom.

But really? It's just moving from one grade to the next. Not a new campus, not a new school. And besides, it was torture for him to sit still that long. (shocker, I know) Besides, some of those little girls were literally dressed like they were ready for prom. I tried taking a few pictures as proof but they ended up being blurry, probably because I was laughing.

Of course, he was adorable & there were plenty of hilarious moments, like when his teacher was trying to collect the American flags from the kids at the end of their song & Trevor was taunting her & holding it just out of her reach. OR, when the kids all filed off the stage at the end & Trevor was the last one standing all alone on the stage....and he picks his nose. Nice, good one Davis.

But still. I sat there the entire time wishing on a star that we were back at my work for the 50's sock hop that was going on....finger steaks, patty melts, homemade onion rings, & root beer floats. Mmmmm! (the kids would've had way more fun there anyways)

Eh. At least he chose Taco Bell for dinner afterwards & there was a great thunderstorm. That part was cool.

TrAmPoLiNe!!!

Got a trampoline this past weekend.
Watching our kids jump on the trampoline while the puppy runs around underneath....*sigh*. We officially feel like awesome parents now.

Nasty MRSA, day #11

MRSA

Trevor had this little spot on his lower back that got infected, with MRSA (nasty antibiotic-resistant staph infection).
Fun times. He seems to be doing better, we were able to lance & drain it the same night we started him on antibiotics & by the next morning he wasn't limping anymore. So far he's 5 days into his meds & no signs of progression. Here's hoping.

What a brave little guy, it sure hurt him. Love you Trev!

Aiden's 1st Birthday & Rick's 35th

Happy 1st Birthday to our little man! Aiden turned 1 on Saturday the 15th. The entire Davis clan was there to celebrate both his B-day & Rick's 35th B-day from the 13th.

We sure do love you Aiden & are beyond thrilled to have you in our family. Thank you for all the joy that you bring to each of us, my baby boy.

Looking back:

Moving forward:

(at least the dog has green eyes like me)

When I asked Rick if Beyla was his best-ever birthday present for his entire life he just looked at me & said that no, Aiden was. Awww, I love you sweetie.

He pretty much didn't leave a single crumb behind & boy did he smell yummy!
That's my boy....chocoholic kid. He was sure buzzin' for the rest of the night...

Introducing: "Beyla" (Rick's early B-day present)

We surprised Rick with another weekend trip to Utah on Thursday after work.

Why?.... Meet Beyla, our new puppy. She's a White Lab & cuter than heck.

Rick's B-day is on the 13th & I've been plotting this for weeks. He was certainly thrilled, I think the kids are almost as excited as he is. :)
While we were there we got to see our good friends, the Arnells (their dog is Beyla's daddy) & Caywoods again.
Brynnah is doing much better & has had an eventful week. She got extubated (taken off the ventilator) & was able to move out of the PICU & into a room on the "regular" floor. It was great to see her awake & for the kids to be able to play with her.

Our kids are growing up

Went for a walk with the kids the other night.
Olivia's chain fell off so she wanted to sit there & help Rick fix it.
Trevor's kindergarten pictures came back this week, he looks like such a big boy. When I asked him why he didn't smile big with his teeth his reply was, "Because I wanted to smile like that."

Macaroons!

I LOVE chocolate-dipped coconut macaroons but I never knew how to make them.
Once again my trusty allrecipes.com website didn't let me down. I narrowed it down to 2 potential recipes & then gave these puppies a whirl for FHE on Monday.
The result? Absolute yumminess:

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 5 1/2 cups flaked coconut
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Baker's brand semi-sweet baking chocolate squares

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together the flour, coconut and salt. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla using your hands until well blended. Use an ice cream scoop to drop dough onto the prepared cookie sheets. Cookies should be about golf ball size.
  3. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until coconut is toasted.
  4. Once cool, dip in melted dark chocolate. Set on wax paper to set up.

So, we went for a drive....

So last weekend we went for a drive as a family. Well, we started out trying to go hike some caves but we couldn't actually find the caves (minor detail).
As we were headed back to town this gorgeous storm was blowing in & I was able to get these awesome pictures of the fields with the mountains in the distance. Personally, I love the way the clouds look.

The kiddos all crashed on the drive back, Trevor always falls asleep on Aiden's lap & then gets beat up the whole time.
