Sleeping Beauty: Army Pilot

Trevor & Olivia have been playing with Rick's old
G.I. Joe helicopter lately.
I thought it was hilarious the way that Olivia keeps arranging the action figures:

First day of school....again

Everyone else is getting to post "first day of school" pics so we thought we'd get in on the act.
Rick is SO excited to have Engineering Physics
& Calc 2 in the same semester.
Erin is just stoaked to be in her final semester.... who cares if she has 7 classes & over 400 clinical hours to complete?

Bring. It. On.

Way to go Ben Stein

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.

My confession:

I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are: Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, "Merry Christmas" to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu . If people want a creche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

I'm in love... with my bedroom

So... we've been married for almost 10 years now & we finally have a "grown-up bed".
Rick caved & let me get us new sheets & a matching bedspread... now our entire room matches.
I got the bed all made last night & just cuddled in to watch TV & read while Rick was at work.
I love it!

Random conversations with the Pediatrician

So Trevor had a check-up with Dr. Jensen (a.k.a. the best Pediatrician ever).
Here's some of the highlights of the conversation:
Part I
Dr. Jensen: Ok, so we're all done, everything looks good. Do you have any questions for me?
Trevor: Yeah.
Dr. Jensen: Ok, Trevor, what do you want to know about?
Trevor: Rhinos.
Part II
Nurse: Ok guys, time for your shot. Trevor, who do you want to go first?
Trevor: Sweetheart.
____________________________________________
Oh yeah... and then after church on Sunday Trevor goes running up to one of his friend's dad in the hallway & asks him
"Are you Spiderman?!?"
I love having a boy.

Pseudo-spoiler

Our friend Rich made this comment in regards to my "please don't spoil Breaking Dawn" post.
It was so funny that I thought I'd share it with everyone else.
According to him this is what happens in Breaking Dawn:

Rich said...
So, John dies and Dracula becomes the next Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts in the next Harry Potter book/movie. His brides never actually existed because they are figments of everyone's imagination, and Igor still has a hump on his back. The surgery did not go well to remove it and it got infected, so now it's worse than it was. Litigation is undergoing pending an investigation of the hospital where it was performed. Apparently, the doctor never had a license to work there. That is how the book ends. Sorry to ruin it all for you.Oh, BTW, the monster Frankenstein creates actually does exist and has since moved to Nashville to be the next "So you think you can dance" winner. Good luck to him...

Breaking Dawn

Whoa, whoa, whoa!!!!
New rule:
nobody talk/ write/ infer/ anything
to me about Breaking Dawn!

I haven't read it yet!

As hard as that may seem to believe, I wanted to
re-read the series before going on to the final one & I'm on book 3.

I waited too long, I know.

Please please please, no spoilers!

Name that fictional character.....

Who am I?

A plateful of my cookies to the first person to guess correctly.
I can't be the only dork out there who thought of this person after accidentally spray painting my hand black.
Notice that's not my wedding ring on my finger either, hmmm... a clue maybe?
Ok, now that's just too easy....

Davis Reunion 2008

Davis Reunion 2008 was this weekend & it was a blast.
We trekked over to Star Valley, WY for the usual.... we camped, we hiked, we dutch oven-ed, we made banana boats, we fished.

Even though the entire family couldn't make it
(we missed you Crista, Donny, Brandon, Carter, & Dylan) boy-oh-boy did we have fun, it definitely lived up to our high expectations.

Let me show you some of the reasons why:

After the big hike
(Olivia & Megan stayed at the bottom with Grandma & Papa)

The Davis siblings:

Jaime, Rick, & Chuck (Crista had to work, ugh)

The girl cousins:
Ariana, Megan, & Olivia

Right before the trail head to Intermittent Springs (our hike)

1/2 way there, just getting ready to start the steep part.

The die-hards who made it to the top!

(Anne is 7 months pregnant, she gets excused)

Josh & Ariana

Trevor was super-excited to be with all the big kids.

Rick trying to plant one on me... he had just licked my nose last time, eww.

Yes, Anne, this did make it on the blog.

Livvy loved this huge puffball I brought back for her.

Dennis & Evlyn: Co-Presidents of the Davis clan.

Dennis trying (really trying) to pass on the torch for the traditional dixie-fry dutch oven dinner.
Yummm.....

4 Generations:

Rick & the kids, Evlyn, & her parents (Dean & Neva)

Ariana & Olivia

Livvy found her Scottish roots while we were up there, now she's ready for battle.

Ryan caught the first, last, & only fish this weekend.
It was also his first ever fish... way to go Ryan!

Mom & Trevor fishing. Of course, Trevor was the one fishing, I didn't have a license & of course I would never poach.

The Davis clan fishing at Cottonwood lake.
Worms!

Josh comforting Olivia after she hurt her eye.... with a stick.... yeah, I know.
It was all fun & games up till that point.

Jaime beating my daughter.

Mentos & diet Coke, gotta love it! Fun every time.

Livvy totally crashed on the way home, hard-core.

After we all got back to our place Olivia, Megan, & I all got haircuts from Jaime.

Thanks, Jimbo.

What an awesome weekend, can't wait until next year!!!

P.S. it worked

I've gotten a couple questions about whether or not my motivational post from last week was effective or not.
I present to the court for evidence, item A:

They were done that very afternoon.
Worked like a charm.
