Ice Cream!

Don't you just LOVE a big huge vanilla ice cream cone when it's all hot outside? The soft serve ones always remind me of the summers we spent in Pocatello when we'd go for walks around the cemetery & then meet up with friends for ice cream cones at Tastee Treat. Yummy!

Yeah.... I had no idea that THIS is what they meant by "kids cones", I just grabbed a box in a hurry. The kids love them. They're more like ice cream shooters for us.

Good evenin' Sherriff

So Rick had his first few experiences of being viewed as a "cop" this week:

#1. He met me in town before going to training & we grabbed a bite for lunch at Taco Bell. We place our order & the girl behind the counter gives us our total... it's totally off, way too low. So we both start trying to correct her & tell her that she must've missed one of our orders. Poor thing, we kept trying to tell her, in different ways, about 3 times. I'm literally quoting her the price of each of our meals & what it should have added up to when she quietly says "Police get a 50% discount". OoooH!
.... of course, I then loudly whoop: "Wahoo!" & tell him he needs to wear his uniform every time we go out & eat. Rick was mortified at that point.

#2. His new schedule is 6:30am- 4:30pm Sunday through Wednesday. Sadly this means Daddy doesn't get to go to church with us. On the way home last week, Trevor was asking where Dad was & saying that he missed him. Olivia responded very matter-of-factly, "Trevor, Daddy is a cop, he's very important."
Too cute.

Crazy week, crazy kids

As many of you already know, Aiden started getting sick last weekend & on Monday was diagnosed with RSV. For most children it's just a bad cold but sometimes for infants under the age of 12 months it can lead to hospitalization & the need for oxygen. A tad scary for mom & dad but luckily we were able to avoid the hospital & at this point he just has nasty-cold symptoms. Poor little guy. Through it all he remained happy & smiling, in fact, he officially started crawling this week.

Trevor & Olivia are as crazy as ever. The other day they came down the stairs like this:


Trevor did it for her, he was trying to help get her hair out of her face. Reminds me of another picture from Sept '08:


They are both hilarious & say the funniest things.

Rick: No, we're not watching The Little Mermaid.

This is one of many similar shots I've taken over the years. Since the cat is gone now Olivia is his only patient. I've never known a surgeon to wear a ninja mask in the O.R. though.... hmmm. The closest I've seen is a jersey cow scrub cap.

So I'm working on a presentation for one of my classes & came across this photo. It reminds me of the scene in Signs where JoaquinPhoenix is sitting on the couch with his niece & nephew wearing the tin foil hats to protect them from the aliens.

I thought it was friggin' hilarious & wanted to share.

Erin is just stoaked to be in her final semester.... who cares if she has 7 classes & over 400 clinical hours to complete?

Random conversations with the Pediatrician

So Trevor had a check-up with Dr. Jensen (a.k.a. the best Pediatrician ever).

Here's some of the highlights of the conversation:

Part I

Dr. Jensen: Ok, so we're all done, everything looks good. Do you have any questions for me?

Trevor: Yeah.

Dr. Jensen: Ok, Trevor, what do you want to know about?

Trevor: Rhinos.

Part II

Nurse: Ok guys, time for your shot. Trevor, who do you want to go first?

Trevor: Sweetheart.

Oh yeah... and then after church on Sunday Trevor goes running up to one of his friend's dad in the hallway & asks him

So the other day I come out of the bathroom & Rick is standing there pinning something under his foot.... apparently Tonks came carrying this bird in with just the head in her mouth & when she let it go it started flying around our living room.
At first Trevor sat there with this awestruck look on his face, after Rick caught it he decided it was "cute" & wanted to keep it.
No way buddy.

Little Miss Olivia

So we were eating dinner tonight and Trevor and I were talking about how important it is to listen to Mom & Dad & do what they say.

Olivia looks up and says: "Trevor needs to listen"

me: "Yes, and so do you"

Olivia: "No, I get in trouble."

Our very own Monster

Have I mentioned that my kids decided thay they have a monster in their room/ under the beds/ in the closet/ in our room?

Oh, & did I mention that Olivia has decided that the monster is named Alex?

Last week I was getting them ready for bed while Rick was at work and she was cowering between the toilet & the tub peering across the hall into my bedroom. I asked her what was wrong & she pointed and said that "Alex is in there". I asked who Alex was & she told me that he is the monster that Daddy scares away.

Rick will go into their room at night & they will all put on their scary voices & yell "Go home monster! Go home!" The kids laugh & think it's great.

Now they yell for Alex to go home.... no idea where that came from.

Trevor & poor Kitty Tonks

True story, hilarious. For some reason, even though Trevor keeps doing this kind of stuff to her she still loves him best. She sits outside his door at night until he falls asleep & I let her in to sleep on his bed.

This is the IM conversation I had with Rick this morning while I was in class:

Rick says:
so i was walking down the hall and I heard the cat meow. so i look in the bedrooms to see if she got locked somewhere she wasn't suppose to be. I couldn't find her but could still hear her meow. I looked in the closet and found the kid's stuffed frog by the towels and could still hear her meow. I asked trevor where she was and he pointed to the top drawer under the cupboards. I opened the drawer
Erin says:
oh no
Rick says:
and there she was. I don't know how long she was there. I'm guessing a couple hours.
Erin says:
poor kitty
Rick says:
this morning he got introuble for cramming her under the stool in the bathroom and standing on it while he went bathroom. he was torturing her
Erin says:
i've seen him try to do that before. she just lays there

I told my friend Kristen about this & she says that if the cat just lays there then it's totally ok to laugh.

Rick & his eyelashes

Sometimes my husband is just too cute!

He & all of his siblings are blessed with these amazingly long eyelashes, his just happen to be ultra-blonde.

We were sitting in church today & I looked over at him & noticed that his eyelashes were extra curly today. I leaned over & told him of my observation.

His response was that it was because they were tired.

I was a little confused, I asked what him being tired had to do with his eyelashes being curly?

He said that they were curly because they were too tired to keep trying to stay straight..... apparently that's what "good manly lashes" do.

Awesome.

Optimus Prime

So the other day Rick & I were in the bedroom talking & we hear water splashing. We look at eachother & figure that Trevor is "washing his hands" in the bathroom. We finish our conversation & then go to investigate.
We get out to the living room & Trevor has drug a chair over to the fish tank, he & Olivia have the lid off & he has his hands in the tank splashing around. Rick pulls him out, spanks his bum, and starts chewing him out as he takes him down the hall to take off his sopping wet clothes & wash him off.
During this Trevor keeps trying to talk to explain himself. Finally we hear what he's saying & look at the fish tank. Somehow (one guess) Optimus Prime's gun got dropped into the fish tank & he was just trying to get it out.
That's all! Honest mistake. Could happen to anyone.
